Information

I wanted to make a gift for Mother's Day so I thought of a cute 3D plaque. This is customizable to your liking. This is a great gift for a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, etc.

The XCS file does not contain the font used in this file because they were purchased but you can use any font for MOM and purchase the heart style from creative fabrica, it's called "Heart Style"

Step1: Creating The Names - Silhoutte Business Edition

This first step instructions are those who use Silhoutte Studio Business Edition.
First, if you don't already own Heart Styles from Creative Fabrica, you can download it from there. Also, Silhoutte Studio Business Edition, is a paid application. So there may be other applications you use that does the glyphs, but this the way I know how to do it.

  • You can do this whole project in Creative Space if you rather not download the font but you will not be able to get the looping connecting heart. You can do two different words and insert a heart in the middle in creative space.
  • In Silhouette Studio, I typed out the names I wanted to use in one text box and then I selected and click on the “A" on the right hand side of the screen. Once the box opened, I clicked on the “G” at the top of that box.
    • This box gives you all your Glyph design choices, you will be able to scroll down and select the choices you would like to use.
    • Once you're done designing your fonts how you like them, save it has a SVG file.

Creating the Design (All pictures will contain detailed instructions.

  • Create a rectangle. Click on the rectangle and on the right hand side of creative space size to your liking.
  • For this design I used 11.5" x 5", For larger machines you can up the dimensions. You may need to click the aspect ration on the right hand side of creative space to get the exact dimensions you want.
  • Next Create some text on the left hand side. Type “MOM” or “Granny” however you would like to customize this.
  • Make cute both objects are cut set to “CUT”
  • Now, we can bring “MOM” (or the text you used" into the box and make sure its sized how you want it.
  • Once its in the box, select both objects, click on the alignment icon on the right hand side, click align horitonzal center, and then click vertical align center.
    • This will give you a good sense of what it would like like once its cut out. You can make the text larger or smaller depending how you would like it to look
  • Next, we need to bring in our SVG file that we created in silhoutte studio.
    • Click on the small picture on the left hand side of creative space and bring in the file from wherever you saved it.
  • Now, select all the text by dragging your mouse and holding down the left side of the mouse. On the right hand side of creative space, under combine, click the “Unite” icon. This will weld all the text together.
  • Once the file is loaded, select all of the text by dragging the mouse over all it, right click, and group it together.
  • Select the text again and on the right hand side of creative space click “OUTLINE”
    • Unclick “add inner outline for bitmap”
    • I used 0.159 for this design but you can use any distance you'd like
    • Once you have the size you like click “OK”
  • Now make sure the the text and the outline are both set to “Cut”

  • First paint everything you would like painted.
    • I stained the rectangle and mom with some wood stain.
    • I painted the outline white and painted the text black.
    • I use the heart from the cut out and thought it would be cute to add it to the design and I had an extra so I used it as well.
      • You can always cut out some hearts in creative space and add to your project to give it some more decoration.
  • Once everything has dried, Glue “MOM” to the rectangle, centering it as best you can to the backerboard.
  • Next, glue the text to the outline.
    • Since the text is so small i have the q-tip looking things that help spread the glue, I love these because they have a foam tip and dont leave little fabric hairs behind. I purchased these from amazon.
  • Once you have glued the text glued to the outline and it has dried. You can can glue the outline on top of “MOM”, centering again as best as you can.

And thats its! You have created a personalized Mother's Day gift for you loved one to enjoy!
