I wanted to make a gift for a friend. I found the cross base at Hobby Lobby and knew I could figure something out for it. I ended up just using the Bible verse and making a project from it.
I originally designed this file in Adobe Illustrator but it would be fairly easy to replicate something similar in XCS. I measured the inside of my cross to get the work space. I chose fonts and typed the Bible verses I wanted. I manipulated the He is Risen portion to make it a different font and placed it in the middle. The one important thing to note when bringing fonts over to XCS is that you need to have it compatible with an SVG. I highlighted all of the typed parts and hit create outlines and then combined them.
With the F1 you need to engrave the sections separately. Here we will engrave the top portion of the cross.
To engrave the bottom portion you need to turn the cross and engrave in 2 sections. You can fit the rest of the verse in one section and then engrave the last line separately.
I cut the center portion of the verse with 3mm Basswood plywood. You can do this using any material you want. You can also change the sizing or font to customize it how you want.
All you need to do to finish is attach the words “He is risen” to the cross board. I usually use loctite gel superglue. Sometimes I also line the back of my boards with a double sided adhesive so I just have to peel the backing off and attach. 3M has some options and I got a roll of double adhesive from amazon.
