I made a laser enclosure because I wanted to have smoke evacuation and be able to put drawer slides to the enclosure for easy storage.
Made this for my garage space…. I have tons of projects and no space, so I decided to make this enclosure with drawer slides for easy storage and easy and accessible setup.
This is ¾" cabinet grade plywood, I cut the side panel with my X-CARVE. You can also cut them with a jig saw and copy the panel with a tracing router bit.
This is ¾" T- Molding I applied after using a 1/8" T-Slot router bit.
This is the cabinet window frame… I cut out the area where the window will be going in…… a film can later be applied to the glass for laser safety if desired.
I cut out the X-Tool logo out of black gloss 3mm acrylic and applied it with C.A. glue
I have a rolling work bench where I will be able to access the D1 laser.
I applied heavy duty drawer slides the length of the enclosure on both sides. The enclosure is not that heavy, and with the slides being roller bearing. It slides effortlessly.
Once you have mounted the enclosure to the slides, locate the best area in the back for a smoke evacuation port. I used a 5" coupler that goes screwed on in the back on my enclosure.
All you need to do is make small ¼" diameter holes to fit the air assist hose and secure and seal with hot glue so that the tube doesn't pull out and keep smoke from leaking. Also made a 1" hole on the right side of the enclosure so that I could place a rubber gasket that i can run my power cable and my usb cord through and still keep the smoke from leaking out. At this point you are ready to start using your laser safely and with no smoke in you workspace. Enjoy.
