From a black-and-white photo of a hen, cut out 1 piece of wood corresponding to the silhouette of the animal and engrave it on both sides.

You'll need to add one tab (square crenellation) to the silhouette to secure the hen to its two bases.

I used the "outline" function to generate the laser-cut trajectory of the hen's outline with an offset of "0", which will generate an outline vector of the hen's periphery that will be superimposed on the pixelated outline of the hen's  image. I also used the "combine" function to merge the tab (square slot) at the bottom of the hen into the oval base.

You'll need to make an egg-shaped cutout in the animal's body. Be careful with the size and shape of the chocolate egg. In our case, it's a "Kinder Joy" or "Kinder Surprise" egg.

For the reverse side, you'll need to overlay the Xtool laser-cut design with the image taken by the Xtool machine's camera. Try the "Framing" function several times to make sure that the engraving will be centered, and therefore not offset, before starting the engraving process. Once cut, turn the piece of wood over and place it in the middle towards the top of the Xtool machine table. The most important thing is to position the top of the piece of wood with the trace of the framing light.

The plywood thickness parameter is important to obtain a photo of the cut plywood at the right scale versus the drawing for laser cutting.

A partir d'une photo noir et blanc de poule, découper 1 pièce de bois correspondant à la silhouette de l'animal et graver la pièce de bois en recto verso.

Il faudra rajouter à la silhouette une languette (créneaux carrés) pour fixer la poule sur son socle.

Il faut utiliser la fonction "outline" pour générer la trajectoire de la découpe laser du contour de la poule avec un offset à “0” qui va générer un vecteur de contour de la périphérie de la poule qui se superposera au contour pixelisée de l'image de la poule. J'ai également utilisé la fonction "combine" pour fusionner la languette (créneau carré) en bas de la poule en vue de les emboiter dans le socle ovale.

Il faudra réaliser une découpe en forme d'œuf dans le corps de l'animal. Attention à la taille et à la forme de l'œuf en chocolat. Dans notre cas c'est pour un œuf “Kinder Joy” ou un “Kinder Surprise”.

Pour le verso, il faudra bien superposer le dessin de la découpe laser Xtool avec l'image prise par la caméra de la machine Xtool. Essayer plusieurs fois la fonction “Framing” pour vous assurer que la gravure est bien centrée, donc surtout pas décalée, avant de lancer le processus de gravure de la 2ème face. Donc une fois découpée, retourner la pièce de bois et la placer au milieu vers le haut du plateau de la machine Xtool. Le plus important est de bien superposer le haut de la pièce de bois avec la trace de la lumière du “Framing”. 

Le paramètre d'épaisseur du contre plaqué est important pour obtenir une photo du contre plaqué découpé à la bonne échelle versus le dessin pour la découpe laser.

Apply wood glue to the tabs and place the hen on its base.

Fit the Kinder Joy egg into the egg-shaped hole. For a Kinder Surprise egg, you'll need to secure the egg in the shape with a small piece of paper, but without deforming the fragile Kinder Surprise egg.

Mettre de la colle à bois sur la languette et emboiter la poule sur son socle.

Emboiter l'œuf Kinder Joy dans le trou en forme d'œuf. Pour un œuf Kinder Surprise, il faudra caler l'œuf dans la forme avec un petit morceau de papier, mais sans déformer l'œuf Kinder Surprise qui est fragile.
