Information
Following the xtool guidance on setup works for S1 with the original baseplate but doesn't work quite the same way if you are using a honeycomb plate and have the riser base installed. A few tweaks get's this up and running so you can use the Snapshot Preview feature with XCS 2.x!

Idea: engrave the stickers onto wood or acrylic and glue onto a magnetic post to allow snap into the honeycomb like the hold-down clips.

Instruction
1
Step1: Print the sticker file onto labels

From the XTool support article: https://support.xtool.com/article/1299

Download and print with an Avery 8163 (or similar) label sheet loaded. (Or just use paper with some glue. I recommend rubber cement.)

2
Step2: Position your honeycomb

With the riser base, put the base plate into the highest slow and insert the honeycomb on top. I usually position my honeycomb to be flush with the back and right sides of the machine to keep it somewhat square and repeatable.

3
Step3: Open the "Creative Space" app on your mobile device

It isn't immediately obvious, where to find this option. On the app…

  1. Click “Create project”
  2. Tap on the “start editing” space
  3. Look for the camera icon in the top-right corner.
  4. Click it and select the “Snapshot preview” the 1st time or “Calibrate” if you want to redo the setup.
4
Step4: Place your stickers on the honeycomb

Using the laser guides, I positioned the laser head at the extreme range on each of the 4 corners and then affixed the 1,2,3,4 stickers (hint only #4 is different) by aligning them on the inside quadrant to ensure that they would be available for calibrating in later steps.

5
Step5: Position the laser head over the middle of the 1st sticker to set height

Position the laser pointer above one of the stickers. Then hit Next. The S1 will attempt to detect the height.

6
Step6: Mark/Calibrate each sticker in order 1,2,3,4

This part is really as directed in the app and tutorial. Position the laser head over each one of the stickers in the following order 1) top-left, 2) top-right, 3) lower-left, 4) lower-right. Put the crosshair centered on the dot in the middle of each sticker.

7
Step7: Take an overview shot with your camera

The next screen will ask for the overhead shot with the 4 stickers positioned within the frame. Click the green checkmark button to proceed.

Note: It isn't entirely clear that this step is necessary.

Step8: Now to do it for real...

Setup your items on the honeycomb. In this case, I am using a jig to hold 6 metal business cards for engraving.

  1. Go to the XCS app on the mobile phone and click on the camera icon again and select “Snapshot preview”.
  2. Take picture of the workspace with the stickers in frame.
  3. Click the green “Send to computer” button at the bottom of the next screen.
  4. On the computer XCS 2.x, click on the “Shoot background” button at the bottom of the right hand panel.
  5. Then select “Obtain background” which will present a qr code on screen.
  6. Move the mobile app camera viewfinder over the QR Code on screen.
  7. Magic should happen.
9
Step9: Position your design content over the background image or use Smart Fill
Preview

Smart Fill worked fairly well but tends to flip the last image upside down at the time I am writing this. I suspect this is a bug that will get fixed. No biggie. Just flip it or delete it for now.

Hit Start!
