I used AImake to reimagine a cherished felt Christmas decoration my mom made when I was a child. This piece can be displayed on a table or hung on the wall, making it a versatile addition to your holiday decor. Santa’s bag is functional and can be filled with candy, ornaments, or other small decorations—making it both charming and practical for the season.
This file uses 1/8" basswood plywood for everything except the spacers for the bag. Those are made from 1/2" pine. You can use any material you would like for the spaces just keep in mind the thickness and consider how wide you want the opening of the bag. You can cut out additional spaces to achieve your desired size. Also, if you want it to stand, you need to make sure you have at least a 1" total thickness of your piece. The settings are set for 1/8" plywood. To cut the pine, the settings used is 100%, 6mm/s, 2 passes. Red/yellow is cut, black is engrave, and green is score. Process your material.
*2 additional 1/4" spacers were added at the end of this project. The total thickness of the final piece (shown in cover image) is 1.5"
Sand/clean around the engraved areas if needed. Paint as desired. Acrylic craft paint and paint pens were used for this one.
Glue the first layer of pieces onto the base as shown in the picture. Glue all the spacers onto the bag. Then, glue the next layer of pieces followed by the remaining pieces as shown. Seal with a clear coat or polyurethane. Add hanging hardware if desired. Enjoy!
