Who says magic canât be made from leftovers? âš
This little autumn project turns an ordinary toilet paper roll into a glowing piece of art. Using your xTool F1 and the rotary attachment, youâll transform simple cardboard into a delicate leaf-pattern lantern â perfect for cozy fall evenings.
Itâs a fun, eco-friendly DIY that proves creativity doesnât need fancy materials â just a laser, a bit of patience, and the right idea.
Connect your rotary attachment to the xTool F1 and position it according to the official setup guide.
Make sure the rotary axis is stable and centered before you start.
â ïž Important safety note:
When using the rotary, the laser operates as a Class 4 laser.
Always wear appropriate laser safety goggles, and make sure everyone nearby is either also protected or outside the laserâs line of sight (e.g., behind a closed door).
đ„ Additional safety warning:
Because paper is highly flammable, always stay with the laser while itâs running â never leave it unattended.
Keep something nearby to extinguish a small fire quickly if necessary (like a damp cloth or a small spray bottle of water).
Safety first â creativity second.
Download the autumn leaves design and open it in XCS (xTool Creative Space).
This design features flowing leaves â ideal for creating a beautiful play of light when the LED candle glows inside.
Insert an empty toilet paper roll onto the rotary.
In the preview window, align the design to fit the rollâs width and height.
Tip: If the roll isnât perfectly round, gently reshape it with your fingers before placing it.
Run a frame preview to verify the correct position and alignment of the design.
Double-check that the rotary axis spins smoothly and the laser head stays clear of the edges.
Before you hit âStart,â confirm again:
â
Safety glasses on.
â
Everyone nearby is safe.
â
The rotary axis is clear and aligned.
Then let the laser work its magic! đ

Once the engraving and cutting are done, carefully remove the roll.
Insert a small LED tea light (â ïž never use real candles!) and place it in a dim room.
The swirling leaf patterns will cast beautiful, warm shadows â a perfect cozy touch for autumn evenings. đ
