Information

I’ve recently fallen in love with a style I call Lyric Art—a whimsical fusion of typography and silhouette where the lyrics of a song are woven into the shape of a character or icon. And what better muse for the holiday season than the beloved Rudolph?
This idea had been jingling around in my head for a while, and while playing with AIMake, I casually asked for a silhouette of Rudolph’s head—thinking it might become a layered ornament. But the moment that silhouette appeared, it sparked a festive memory: I’ve always wanted to do a Lyric Art piece with “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” So I dove in, and the design came together like magic.
The final piece is a joyful collage of Acrylic, Colored MDF, and Walnut Plywood, layered with warmth and charm. But here’s the beauty of it: this design is completely adaptable. There are no tabs or fixed insert points, so you can craft it from any material, at any thickness. Want to go full wood and hand-paint the accents? Go for it. Prefer a bold, modern palette? Change up the colors. You can even simplify it—just Rudolph and the lyrics, skipping the background letters entirely.
This isn’t a rigid template—it’s a festive playground for you to enjoy.
I truly hope this brings you as much joy as it brought me while designing and crafting it. Rudolph’s story is timeless, and now his song lives on in a new, artful way.

Instruction

1

Step1: Before you begin

This was created in just a few hours. When I cut it, I realized some of the pieces for the background letters were way too small so I removed them completely as the really did not need to be there. I tell you this because if you decide to go and adjust the letters of the background, you may find a tiny piece or two that is missing completely.

Also, as I stated in the introduction, while I made this with Acrylic, MDF and Walnut, you are free to change the material to whatever you want to use. A word of note though. There are still some small pieces that are vital to the appearance of this project and if you cut product that is too thick, you may find it hard to piece together or find it looking odd.

There are four colors in the project plans.

Red are cut lines

Black is the engrave on the bells

Blue is the engrave of the lyrics

Green is informational and as such is set to ignore

Step2: Cut your pieces

If you use the same material and machine that I used, the settings above should work for you. However, if you change it up, use a different machine and/or different materials, you will need to adjust your settings to your tested values.

I recommend starting with the cutting of the back piece and the background letters. That way, while you are piecing that part together, you can cut out the lyric rudolph silhouette.

Before cutting, you will need to ensure that you have the adhesive backer paper on all parts except the back piece.

NOTE: I have the background letters surrounded by a rectangle that exactly matches the size of the back piece. It is very important that this rectangle is also cut out to help you line up the letters. More on this in the next step.

Step3: Assemble your background

Take your back piece and the rectangle that the background letters were cut out of and lay them atop each other. While holding the edges of the bottom right corners of the two pieces to where it lines up evenly, take the R that would fit there and insert it. Do the same with the R in the upper left corner. Make sure the edges are evenly aligned all the way around and then press those letters down firmly to seat them completely and allow the adhesive backer to do its magic.

After you get those first two pieces in, the rest is easy. Just go one piece at a time and place them in. If you come across a piece you can't find the spot for, just put it to the side and come back to it. You may find that you accidentally pulled pieces that are just scraps once all is said and done. I know I did.

Once you have all the pieces in, double check and then triple check that you don't have any that are missing. Then slowly, starting one side, remove the rectangular piece that helped you line up the letter pieces. Once you have it pried up a bit, pry up on the opposite side. Watch that you don't move any of the pieces. If you pressed them down after placing them, then they should not move, but the smaller pieces may shift some, so move slow and if you see one piece move, adjust it and press down on it hard before removing the rectangle any further.

After you have removed that piece, you can put it aside and then remove the protective paper (If you have that on as I did) from each letter. When done, you should have the same thing as shown in the last photo of this step.

Step4: Add in the Rudolph Lyric Silhouette

Fairly straightforward, just insert the cutout Rudolph head in the same shaped void in the letters. A word of caution though. DO NOT remove the backer paper until you dry fit it first. This is just in case a piece shifted that you did not catch. If so, attempt to adjust that piece to fit the area it is supposed to be in.

Once you have done a successful dry fit, remove the adhesive paper and then place the silhouette in. It should fit very snug in the area between the letters.

Then take the Red Circle and put it in the void of letters where Rudolph's nose would be.

Step5: Add the Sleigh Bells

As I was working this up, I had to adjust the letters so many times, changing their thickness, height, etc. As such, I ended up with a blank space at the bottom. I had already planned on putting something like the sleighbells at the base of the neck, so this actually worked out perfectly.

I used AIMake to create a sleighbell and then edited it using the tools in XCS Studio to get the desired look I wanted. Then I make copies and created the band of sleighbells presented here. Once these are cut out, remove the backing and carefully line it up to where it will fall just under the lyrics and not cover them. Yes, the sleighbells DO hang just slightly below the bottom edge of the art, but that was intentional and, to me, created a much more visually appealing look.

Now you are finished and have a wonderful Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Lyric Art to display.

Step6: Final thoughts and thanks

I did not include a way to display this as that would be completely up to you. There are many options on how to display this but my two personal favorites are easle displays which are very easy to cut out put together. There are literally hundreds of different easle offers (both free and paid) on multiple sites, including Atomm (I actually use ones I purchased on Atomm and they are fantastic.) The other I like is to use a kickstand. I actually have plans for those in my premium plans and they are also easy to cut and assemble. You can click the link below to go to my Atomm page and see if they are what you would want. If not, just like with the easles, there are literally hundreds of these out there that you could get.

If you liked this plan, I would greatly appreciate it if you wold click the heart to show your support. And then go check out my other plans. I mostly have free to download and use items, but I do have a few premium projects out there too.  Click the link below to go and see what I have.
