This project is a 3d 3 layer Easter bunny for the holiday. Made this from 1/4" thick birch.
Step 1) This project starts with a bunny from my computer, this bunny image is outlined with a 0.2 off set so it has a bit of thickness. Then the now outlined bunny is copy and pasted as we need a couple of them. Once the bunnies are both ready they are sized to 5.75" in size.
Step 2) Now we add the word Easter, this word will be part of the inside on the bunny so we outline the word. Then we add a triangle that is resized and shaped to make like a steak for the outline. This is all put together with the help of the combine and unite feature. The the outline of the word is placed inside the bunny body.
Step 3) Now the word Happy is added, this word happy is made from an Easter font that makes an egg on each letter. This too is outlined the same way the Easter word was and the new outline is also placed inside the bunny and is united with the rest. This is done by using the subtract option instead of uniting. Once both outlines of Easter and happy are in place the actual words are moved back and are set to be engraved.
Step 4) Now the backing is created, this is done by copy and pasting just the outside of the bunny. This shape is cut by itself and will be the backing. When the laser machine cuts the bunny from the wood the next part is the trick to have the printed paper cut the same shape. So without out moving anything after the backing bunny has been cut tape the printed paper over the cut bunny. This is the time you decide what will be left in the picture so line it up they way you like. Now run the cut again but with settings to cut paper instead of the birch wood. This will cut the printed paper exactly like the shape of the bunny.
Step 5) Now you have a wood bunny and a printed paper that is in the shape of the wood bunny. I simply spray glued the wood bunny and glued the picture over it. You end up with the bunny with a picture together.
Step 6) Now that the laser machine has cut all the pieces it is time to glue them together to create the depth of the 3d bunny. This is done with each layer glued onto each other with taking care to keep them lined up to each other the best you can. The 3 layer effect shows when finished.
