Have you ever had an employee that is mediocre in every way? Has one employee always just barely met his goals and only puts for the required effort? Well then this sign is for you. Its time to give that employee the proper respect they deserve. Don't be fooled by the apparent simplicity of this design as it is a bit more tricky that you can imagine.
You start by finding the design that you like. In this case I used a sign that is commonly used in the office. You want to make two cutouts of the outline as the one will server for the base and the other the cut out letters. I made an outline of it but it did not give me a border. So in order to create that border, I had to do an offset. You select the line you want to offset and then you inset it by 2mm which seemed right for this sign.
You can literally make your sign say anything you want but I wanted it to be a funny/Ironic sign so I chose the words "Worlds Okayest Employee". I wanted to make it funnier so I added the Greatest Part. I will show you how to cross that out later. Once it is aligned to your liking, Move to the next step.
You start by creating a line that is the same size as the word you are going to cross out. Angle it in a way to make it go through the center of the word diagonally. Once you do that you can select the line and copy and paste it. This give you two exact lines with the same angles. On the second line you will want to select it and mirror it Horizontally. This will give you the exact match to your other line. Once aligned to your liking, you can then select the lines and the words greatest together. After doing this you Select the option to weld the shapes together and voila you have a crossed out word.
Then you are ready to cut out your sign. Align it in your machine and send it to the machine. Don't forget your air assist as it will lead to a cleaner cut. Make sure you save your off cuts as they will help later on.
Tip: Once you have cut all the design out, take painters tape over the letters to not loose any and have to fish for them in the honeycomb bed(speaking from experience)
This is pretty self explanatory. Paint it in the colors you like. In this case I painted it with traditional black and white.
Once painting is done and dry, you will need to glue your design. This is why you can save your off cuts as they will serve as a stencil to get your lettering straight. If you feel confident with getting the lettering right you can not use them but I feel it makes the sign cleaner. In the video you can see how I use them as a stencil.
Now I chose to leave mine as is but you could also do this out of acrylic or flood it with epoxy, Really you could use your imagination. Have fun creating.
