With this design, I tested an idea of making a double sided design without using a specially made jig. Designing a symmetrical part allows you to engrave it on both sides by using the leftover stock as a holding jig. Just make sure not to move the wood plate when removing the part or it will be misaligned.
First step is to engrave and cut out the part. Make sure the wood stock is clamped down well as it must not move between steps.
When removing the part it is crucial that you don't move the wood stock at all. Moving it will make your engraving misaligned. Make sure it is clamped down well.
As it can be difficult to remove small cut out bits I use a trick. A low tack tape allows for easy removal of the piece and doesn't stick well to the rest of the wood, preventing it from moving.
Turn around the part and run just the engraving part again. Do not cut out the perimeter again as it may lead to excessive edge charring.
