Retro style boomerang shaped welcome sign! Some retro whimsy to welcome people into your space. For the loud & lovely.
You will be using two different types of wood for this project. The settings I have listed are what I have found works best for myself.
Note: the wood I used was 1/8th in & 5/8th in, please use what settings work best for you and your machine. It is never a bad idea to do a material test grid.
You’ll also need paint and/or wood stain, wood glue (or other adhesive of choice), clamps, and picture mounting hardware.
Now process the pieces on the first canvas. These should be processed on 1/8th”, 3 mm wood, or your thinner wood of choice. The purple scored layer is optional, it’s only there to guide you for assembly. The red layer pieces should all be cut.
Once those are finished, wipe them off, sand them if needed, etc.
Now process the pieces on the second canvas. These should be processed on 1/4th” , 6 mm wood, or your thicker wood of choice. The light blue scored layer is optional, it’s only there to guide you for assembly. The dark blue layer pieces should all be cut.
Once those are finished, wipe them off, sand them if needed, etc.
I begin by spray painting all the pieces from the first canvas and the stars from the second canvas white.
I then stained the large piece from the second canvas with an “Early American” wood stain.
Once the pieces that were spray painted white had dried…I selected color choices and sprayed those accordingly.
middle layer boomerang - coral
“Welcome” - white (additional coat)
“Welcome” offset & stars - metallic silver
Note: make sure whatever method of color application you choose is suitable for where you are choosing to display your finished project. Example: use outdoor paint for outdoor projects
Once all your pieces are completely dry, begin assembly.
I did it in stages. I began by gluing the stars to the middle boomerang and “Welcome” to the offset piece.
Once those were dry, I glued those combined pieces together.
Finally, I glued the combined pieces to the back layer.
Once they were all completely dry, I attached a photo mounting bracket to the back.
Note: make sure whatever adhesive you choose is suitable for where you are choosing to display your finished project. Example: use waterproof adhesive for outdoor projects
Follow the instructions on your adhesive of choice. Allow to dry completely.
