So, this project is pretty personal for my family. The dog, Rocco, was originally my grandma's little buddy. After she passed away, my mom took him in, and honestly, Rocco became her last living connection to her own mom. He was super special to her. We just lost Rocco this year, and it was hard on my mom. It was like losing a piece of her mom all over again. I designed this memorial ornament so we can hang it on the Christmas tree every year. It feels like a good way to make sure both Rocco and my grandma are still a part of our holidays.
First take your pet photo and ask Google Gemini Nano Banana (or another AI image generator) to create a black and white portrait that you can engrave with a laser engraver.
Put together the Ornament frame with the portrait, and add a black backing layer to serve as a cutout. Use Inkscape's Trace Bitmap function - or another similar software - to generate an SVG.
Import the SVG into XCS and cut/engrave with your preferred machine. I used the P2S.
