Use this large stencil ruler to trace and create your own starry heart bookmarks!
Since so many people loved my Hearty Crescent Moon and Star Bookmarks, I've created this Hearty Crescent Moon and Star Large Stencil Ruler, which is designed to allow anyone to trace and outline stars and moons and hearts on their projects when they have their handy ruler present! This large 30.5cm ruler is wide enough to have a variety of star, moons and hearts that can be outlined, traced or shaded in so you can decorate your books, schoolbooks, posters, artworks or projects. The ruler has cm on one side and inches on the other, so you can measure, line and draw your own designs around your traced stars!
I love little details, so if you do too, follow the below instructions to have gold painted engraved measurements and jewelry too! Since I'm a huge fan of Not Wasting any material, I've added some holes to the stencil parts that get lasered out so you can turn your hearty star and moon cut scraps into fun jewelry of earrings and pendants.
It took a little time to designs this just right, so I do hope you all enjoy this fun project stencil ruler as you enjoyed my bookmark design!
Instruction
Step1: Step1: Download & Cut It!
01a. Download the attached XTool CreativeSpace file or Lightburn File
01b. Open File <(^.^)>
01c. Position your chosen material on the lazerbed. Choose your material carefully as its thickness can't be too thick or the stencil will be too hard to trace with a traditional pencil. Personally I prefer 2mm or 1.5mm like my example rulers. Also, if have a CO2 laser I recommend using translucent or transparent acrylics as then you can see the stencil traced outlines through the ruler when tracing!
01d. Move the image in the CreativeSpace so you can align your lazer with the material so as to avoid material wastage.
01e. Set the correct processing parameters for your material, check it's set to output and cutting for the orange cut shapes and engraving for the measurements and numbers. For 1.5-2mm Black Gloss Acrylic, the cut setting on my S1 20w is PWR 100 SPD 7.27. For Engraving thin veneers and the acrylic, I used PWR 27 SPD 69
Step2: Step2: Prep, Paint, Varnish & Make It!
02a. Remove the cut parts from Lazer machine (lol)
02b. Pop out all the little shapes gently.
02c. Get your paint colors, sandpaper, varnish and paintbrush ready.
02d. For Painting… Don't remove the protective acrylic paper. Add 2 coats of paint over the engraves parts. before the paint dully dries, remove the protective tape on your acrylics carefully so as not to smudge the paint.
For Woods… get some water and fine grit sandpaper to gently wash and sand away stubborn smoke marks. Pat dry and use any wood water-based varnish. I like to do 2 coats for extra sheen and perfection.
02e. Let the rulers dry… and make some jewelry out of the cutout shapes! Just use your pliers to add jump rings and earring hooks to the parts.
Step3: Step3: Wear it & Play with It!
03a. Get your pencil out and try using your ruler and stencil!!! While wearing your new earrings and pendants!
03b. Place the ruler on your paper and trace out the starry moon and heart shapes … OR if you want to make some wicked neat posters or Signs (Because I am totally going to use this to make some signage for my market stall lol) Position the shapes you want to trace in and decorate your posters and signs as you like … I did Michelle JK Arts in my example and was entertained that there's enough gap in the large shapes to do some shading as you trace!
03c. Admire your hard work!
