On August 27, 2025, an unspeakable tragedy occurred on what should have been a joyful first day of school at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. As an educator and administrator for over 30 years, and as a father of a son the same age as one of the boys who was killed, my heart sank with sadness and grief. Words cannot capture the depth of loss felt by the families, the school, and the community. I know that prayers will help carry these families through this horrific time, but I also wanted to do something meaningful—something that might remind us all of our shared responsibility to protect children everywhere. Out of that desire, I created this project as a dedication to the Annunciation Catholic School community and to all schools across the globe. This design is simple, crafted from seapele plywood and basswood ply, yet its message is powerful. My hope is that others will recreate and share it—display it in their homes, donate it to schools and churches, place it in local grocery stores or community centers—anywhere it can serve as a reminder that our children deserve safety, love, and protection. I also encourage others to adapt this design into forms that spread the message even further—stickers, keychains, t-shirts, coffee mugs, children’s water bottles, or whatever form speaks to them. Together, let us honor the memory of these children, support the grieving community of Annunciation Catholic School, and stand united in our duty to protect all children across the globe.
Select Material & Load File
Choose your wood (3mm plywood works well) and load the provided file into Creative Space Software.
Prepare Laser Settings
Set the focus on your laser and map out the marking area. If you’re using 3mm plywood, the pre-embedded settings should work well. Adjust as needed for your specific machine and material.
Cut the Pieces
Start your cut. Refer to the provided reference images to check orientation and layout.
Assemble the Design
Line up the cut pieces carefully and apply adhesive. A wood glue or other strong bonding adhesive is recommended.
Clean the Project
Remove any residue or burn marks from the surface. Sand lightly to eliminate sharp edges if necessary.
Finish & Display
Apply your preferred finish (clear coat, stain, or paint) to protect and enhance the wood.
Once dry, proudly display your project at home, school, church, or in your community.
