I made a super cute Alphabet stencil writing board for kids to help my little nephew improve his handwriting so he can show up his tiny classmates! For those who want to practice writing their letters, this board works as a stencil that can be traced with both in capital and lowercase letters! Framed in a cute heart shape, this board can be hung on your wall with ribbon through the star cutouts at the top and you can hang a cute pencil from the bottom star.
I hope this heart alphabet board gets your kid making the most amazing letters and posters while getting a gold star for their handwriting skills!
You can make this from wood, acrylic or even old A3 Folders, just change the cut settings for your material. Other Materials you will need. Ribbon, a needle, thread, a pencil and a lighter. If you use a material thicker than 1.5mm, A mechanical pencil works better than a standard pencil as the distance to paper is raised and the letter gaps are harder to trace in without a thicker standard pencil.
Note: If you want to make it a complete creative experience for your kids... Use any durable material that's under 2mm like recycled cardboard cereal boxes that you then coat with a primer so your kids decorate it and colour it as a side project!
PS. Have 2 kids and want to make a fun puzzle game instead of a alphabet stencil? Cut the design in 2 different colours of wood or acrylic. Then swap the letter pieces so the popped-out letters are a different colour. I've already made the letters fall out as a whole shape. Then, cut a backboard heart outline for both designs. Glue it to the back of the other heart so the puzzle pieces won't fall through and get your kids to race who can out the letters back into place first!

Instruction
Step1: Download & Make It!
01a. Download the attached XTool CreativeSpace file or Lightburn File
01b. Open File <(^.^)> and select the size writing board you want to cut. There's a large and small size to choose from. Personally, the larger size is more durable as the letters are a little delicate in places so if your kids not as gentle, this one is better and the larger letters are easier to trace. However, I couldn't resist the cuter smaller one, because it's so delicate and cute… but the letters like Q are more delicate and can snap if you aren't careful.
01c. Position your chosen material on the lazerbed. Choose your material carefully as its thickness can't be too thick. Also, if you're using the board as a stencil and have a CO2 laser I recommend using translucent or transparent acrylics as then you can see the stencil letters through the board when tracing!
01d. Move the image in the CreativeSpace so you can align your lazer with the material so as to avoid material wastage.
01e. Set the correct processing parameters for your material, check it's set to output and cutting. For 1.5-2mm Black Gloss Acrylic, the cut setting on my S1 20w is PWR 100 SPD 7.27.
Step2: Prep & Make It!
02a. Remove the cut parts from Lazer machine (lol)
02b. Pop out all the little letters gently so as not to break any of the stencil lines for the delicate letters like BQEO … Remove the protective tape on your acrylics.
02c. Get your materials… Your Lazer cut board, your ribbon, your pencil, your needle and thread and a lighter (optional). (See Image 3)
02d. Now follow the instructions on image 4… thread the needle through the eraser at the top of the pencil, make a loop and tie it off. Snip and then thread a ribbon through the thread loop and make a bow. Now do a lasso loop and thread it through the bottom star on the board. Tighten and Tie, then heat seal the ribbon ends with the lighter. Pencil Done.
02e. Follow the instructions on Image 5… Make a lasso loop, thread it through the star and pull the ribbon tightly through. repeat on the upper other star. Now tie the 2 ribbons together at the desired hanging height. Knot and bowtie then snip the excess ribbon and optional heat seal it with a lighter to prevent ribbon fraying.
And VIOLA! You have a writing board complete with ribbon hanging and pencil attached.
Step3: Hang it & Play with It!
03a. Find a place to hang it… Then, take it down and USE IT!
03b. Place the board on your paper and trace out the alphabet of each letter to improve your handwriting… OR if you want to make some wicked neat posters or Signs (Because I am totally going to use this to make some signage for my market stall lol) Postion the letters you want to trace in and trace each letter as you like … I did Michelle JK Arts in my example and was entertained that there's enough gap in the large letters to do some shading as you trace! (see image 4)
03c. Admire your hard work!
