Remember these spinning flowers from my childhood, they were everywhere. So I figure i would make one for fun.
Step 1) This project starts with a Flower from the shapes catalog, This happens to remind me of the spinning flowers from my childhood so this is what we are making. So to start out this flower is grouped together then a circle is created with the insert button, this is sized just big enough to cover all the inner points of the flower. The circle is then placed in the center and with the help of the combine feature it is united all together.
Step 2) Now the flower portion is ready except it need a center hole to be the spinning point. This is done with the insert button again and a small 5mm sized hole is created. it too is centered exactly in the center of the flower. To make sure the alignment tool is used.
Step 3) Now the back need a spinning stem, this is done by creating 2 circles again with the insert button then a small rectangle is created the same thickness as the doweling used. Once in place the combine feature is used to subtract the rectangle leaving the space for the doweling on the backing .
Step 4) Now everything is ready to make this spinning flower but we need some flair to it. So from the shapes list a small flower is added that will be engraved on each peddle of the spinning flower, Each new flower is place on an angle on each peddle and they all are set to be engraved. Then it is off to the laser machine to finish off the project.
Step 5) Now that the laser machine has finished cutting and engraving the assembly is done by gluing the dowel to the baking piece, then the backing piece and the flower are screwed together with the Chicago screw. This allows the flower to spin like the ones from my childhood. Hopefully the wind picks up……
