Here is a dual peg center finder for straight objects, this by twisting it on the object will find the center every time.
Step 1) With this project a shape from the shapes list is used, this is then resized to a workable size. Once the size is set 2 of the middle holes from the object are deleted as they are not needed. Adding length to the long oval gives room for the 2 round wood dowels that will be used as pegs. The 2 outside holes are resized to meet the size of the 5mm doweling, once this is set both holes are centered in the radius.
Step 2) Now we have the center finder set in size a middle circle is added for body, this is done with the insert button and a circle is placed right over top in the center. We need this to be all one piece so the combine feature is used and the 2 pieces are united.
Step 3) Now the center hole needs a reinforcement, this is done by using the outline feature, this will create an outline around the center hole. This will be made with additional wood to make the center stronger. Then cross hatches are added by the help of the insert button and the line feature selected, These 2 lines are place in an X fashion to dictate the center.
Step 4) Now the center ring that was just created needs to be copied and pasted so it can be cut by itself. this is done and moved over to the side. Then the name 'ANY CENTER" is added with the text editor, this can be any font but I like bold fonts for visibility purposes. Once this is placed and sized the outside portion of the center finder also needs to be cut out by itself so it too is copied and pasted but only the outside. The all the parts are ready for the laser machine.
Step 5) Now once all the pieces are cut and engraved the assembly is ready, this is by gluing the 2 pieces of doweling into the 2 holes and the extra donut ring in the center. The outside or top with the engraving is then glued to the piece with the glued doweling. this top is to cover the doweling holes so you can't see them on the top for a finished look. Now any time you place this on any object you simply twist it either way until the 2 dowels stops and the hole in the center will show you the center every time. it is a very useful tool to find the center quickly and accurately.
