This fruit basket is made from the cutting slats that came with the S1 machine, this are not needed if you have a honeycomb. So may as well put them to good use. Made from metal slats and birch wood.
Step 1) This project starts with a moon shape right from the XCS software's shapes list. it is then resized by unlocking the size ratio. Once resized the moon is then copy and pasted. This allows to take the copy and use the reflect option to flip it over.
Step 2) Now we need to work on the feet or base of the basket, this is done by adding a rectangle and placing it over the second moon part way. This then with the help of the combine feature the rectangle portion is subtracted leaving a flat bottom moon. once this is complete the new flat moon is placed over the first moon and again the combine feature is used but this time we unite the 2 parts together. in order to actually have feet a second rectangle is created with rounded corners and place in the middle of the bottom and spaced and sized enough to form feet at each end. This again is with the use of the combine feature and subtracting the rounded rectangle. This leaves a new shape that will be the sides of the basket.
Step 3) Now that e have the basic shape we need for the basket sides 10 slat holes are needed. once a triangle is sized to fit the slats they are placed along the curve of the moon to get the right angle and slope. once each new slat hole is in place they are high lighted and grouped so they are easily moved to more of the middle of the moon shaped sides.
Step 4)Now that we have the shape of the sides a pair of outside shapes need to be created, this is done by just copy and pasting the outside shape of the side, then the entire side is copy and pasted. This leaves you with a pair of both sides with holes and a pair of sides without. Then the settings to cut all of the parts are set and it is off to the laser machine.
Step 5) Now that the laser machine has cut all the pieces it is time to assemble. The metal slats that are used are the set xTool gives you with a machine, These are not needed if you also have a honeycomb so they come in handy for this project. The assemble is simple each slat is fed through each hole on both sides. once all 10 slats are in the sides the outside is glued on to the sides so you don't see the holes. Then it is time for the fruit to be displayed.
Note: The metal slats are perfectly safe as they were never used in the laser machine.
