Capybaras are big hit this year, so I made some cute design to use my scrap wood.
Use your laser cutter to cut the shape of a capybara – a side profile is easiest for painting and instantly recognizable. :)
💡 Add light engraved details if you want to outline:
Nose
Eye
Legs
Cut from 3mm plywood or whatever material you prefer for earrings. I am using pine plywood.
Time to bring the capybara to life! You can go realistic with warm browns(light and dark brown), or have a little fun with crazy colors.
Suggested color combo:
Body: burnt sienna or caramel brown
Nose and legs: darker brown or black
Eye: black dot with a white highlight for cuteness, if the engraving is not enought for you
Extras: pink cheeks
Use fine-tip acrylic paint markers or tiny brushes for the details. Go slow around engraved lines – they help a lot!
🖌️ Tip for beginners:
Paint the base color first, let it dry, then add the tiny details.
If you want to keep things clean and professional, paint the back too! I didn't do it, because I like it that it's visible that it's a wooden item. But you can:
Let everything dry completely before moving on.
Use a strong glue to add the earrings stud backs to it. A small dot is enough - I am using Pentart's super glue; it dries transparent, so it's still looks okay if I add a bit too much blue to it.
Make sure that it's completely dried before moving on.
Time to give your chill boy a protective coat. Use matte or glossy varnish – matte looks more natural, but glossy adds a cute shine.
Varnish the:
Front
Back
Edges (capy edges need love too)
Let dry fully. This protects the paint and makes your capybara waterproof. (okay, I still say that you shouldn't take shower with wooden earrings in, but if you have a rainy day, that shouldn't be a problem.
Boom! Your capybara earrings are ready to chill in your ears! <3
