This keychain holder is a simple idea in and of itself, but it can add quite a lot of organization and decorative value to the foyer in a short amount of time. Playing with the colors of stain is an interesting way to customize it along with potentially adding a family name or crest on the front. I made this project to teach my mother how to use a laser engraving machine in a way that might be interesting to a homemaker.
Cut the model.
Stain the different parts. I used a dark stain on the front panel of the house and the bottom of the back panel and a light one on the people and behind the windows in order to show the light in the window, the emptiness of the house when someone is gone, or when present. You can also use a red stain on the hearts.
Once the stain has dried, glue the hearts in the center of the people to make them easier to remove when needed. Also glue the back panel to the front panel and the pieces from in between the legs of the father and child. (Tip: Glue with all pieces in place, but be careful not to have glue spill over. This will ensure proper alignment)
Varnish if necessary.
Attach keychains through holes. Remember, the holes are just above 3 mm in diameter, so a small loop is necessary.
Finally, hang the model on the wall using the space for the nail head on the back panel. If the keys are very heavy, think to add a second nail in order to prevent tipping.
