One of my favorite things to make! I make them from 8" to 15"
Set up your design. This one is a 14" one. I set it up to engrave lines on the circle so I know where to line up my paint and stain.
I put painters tape across so I can stain the middle without getting stain on the top or bottom.
Stain it. I use Golden Mahagony. I stain the back as well.
Paint the top above the stain white (make sure you are painting the right side, the bottom and top are not the same size).
I then paint the bottom and blend colors together. I use white, light blue, sky mist, navy blue, royal blue, and black. Keep at it till you get something you like!
Put painters tape over the star on the nativity scene. Then spray paint it black
Peel off the painters tape on the nativity and paint the star white
Paint the piece that has the stars cut out of it. I use black, royal blue, and navy blue, with just a tad bit of white. I blend together to make it look real!
Paint the letters white. I don't spray paint because I don't want the sides of the letters painted!
Glue the top and the bottom to the back. I love how the white shows through the stars and moon. I use a high heat hot glue gun, but super glue works great too! Especially for the letters!!
Glue the letters on as well.
Spray with a clear polyurethane. Tip: Use water-based, not oil-based polyurethane because oil-based can yellow the paint.
Add the ribbon! I hot glue it on the back.
