I love my kids, and I love making things…and after a 30 min photo shoot at the river. I had everything I needed. So, after finding and designing everything It was time to cut and glue as well as help my lovely daughter put the puzzle together. It was surprising difficult lol. after all was said and done (about a couple hours total) I found a laser file on Atomm for a desktop photo stand and viola it was complete. I hope you all have as much fun as we had and good luck!!
be sure to scale the image you select and make sure it will fit properly inside the frame. Make any changes to the font, its size, and what you want it to say.
Begin the cutting process by cutting the backer the frame and the puzzle. Though not necessary, I chose to use a slightly thicker 4mm basswood sheet for the outer frame an 3mm birch plywood for the rest.
While cutting the puzzle and the frame, begin choosing the right photo. once the selection is made, and it's uploaded into the workspace, it's time to modify it. I chose to spend some credits and use AI filter to make the photo look a little more interesting. Scaling the photo as well to make sure it will cover all of the puzzle when engraved.
Once the puzzle is cut, I needed to flip it over as the top of the cut has a wider kerf and the backside looked cleaner. At this point all that is need is to frame the laser over the previously cut and flipped puzzle and begin the engraving process…this will take the most time.
The 2 frames must be glued together…wood glue works best!! Be sure to spread the glue evenly. When the 2 frames are pressed together some glue squeeze out will occur. Don't forget to wipe those edges. Put something heavy on top or clamp them and then wait at least a half hour.
Once the puzzle is done being engraved. I wanted to see the puzzle put together. So, we gave it a shot and boy are we not good at puzzles, lol, but at least it was together in the frame. Feel free to glue the puzzle in. I also included the file I used for the photo frame stand Made by Adel S. Alrashidi.
