Information
I've been working on this card for my partner. I didn't get it completed in time for the contest, but I still wanted to share it with the community.
I'm fascinated by the concept of paper-cut cards. I've made a few in the past, but I wanted to try something different for this--a mixed-media thing, if you will.
This card is comprised of an inner and outer page. The outer page is a standard white 5x7 folding card from Michael's. The inside is cut from a sheet of red-tone card stock and perforated to fold. The letters are engraved and cut out of adhesive hobby foam sheets, and I did all kinds of tests to determine the ideal engraving setting for the text on the inner page.
I glued the areas at the edges, around the cut hearts, to the outer card. It is important for this design to keep the center of the card free-floating, and not glued--it needs to float a little when the card is opened to keep the edges aligned.
I love how the hearts look like candy hearts (that was my intent), and the shadow effect as light shines through the card is an unexpected bonus.
