Here in Canada most if not all big grocery store carts need a coin to unlock for each other. This isn't rocket science so anything close to the size of each coin works well. You get the coin back but some time you don't have one but this way you can make sure to have one all the time.
Step 1) With this project the coins we use are the Canadian quarter and the 1 dollar coin we call the loonie. When measured these are 23.81mm in dia. for the quarter and 26.5mm for the 1 dollar coin. So 2 circles are set to those measurements. The next thing needed is a ring holder, so from the shapes list a pie shaped image is used. this isn't quite what is needed but with un-locking the ratio the image can be changed to something workable. when this is complete for both the quarter and the loonie they are placed on top of the circles so they create handles by uniting them with the circles.
Step 2) Now the coins are added to the design, these are one of each, a quarter and a dollar both of which are SVG files so they have full control. these are from my computer. These are then outlined with a very thin off set. The off set is only so the image for both can be subtracted at overlap to reverse the engraving. Seeings the engravings will be going on black acrylic with this method the details of the coins will show better.
Step 3) Now a 5mm sized hole is needed in the handle, this is for the plastic clip that holds the metal ring in place. Each of these are created with the insert button and circle. Setting each hole in the middle of the handle leaving a good amount from any sides for strength.
Step 4) Now the laser has engraved the 2 coins, the plastic clip and ring are added. These are now ready to use, carry them with other keys or just by themselves either way you will always have the coin needed when out shopping.
