Information
I was inspired by Jaccobb to create a map of my city, fueled by my love for Maps. In crafting this project, I prioritized sustainability, opting for recyclable materials throughout. Starting with cardboard, I painted it using water-based acrylics for the base layer. For additional depth and detail, I incorporated scrap basswood into three layers. By leaving the land mass in its natural color and staining the main streets and border, I achieved a clear visual separation and highlighted key features.
To ensure precision in placement, I repurposed waste from the cuts as a jig for the islands, securing them in their rightful positions using wood glue during assembly.
Overall, I'm pleased with the outcome of this endeavor. Looking ahead, I aspire to create a larger-scale version encompassing the entirety of Boston, along with smaller, neighborhood-specific iterations. My next steps involve delving deeper into map-making software and acquiring larger materials to bring these visions to fruition.
