      the current dept is 6mm (2 layers of 3mm plywood but additional layers can be added for more depth. If using for a ring box I would add a satin pillow and a mesh screen under the wooden lace and use fabric as  hinges. Fabric and hot glue make great light hinges. fabric and gorilla glue make a stronger hinge. personally if a child is the ring bearer I would glue the box shut with hot glue. have the groom break the lid  and then make a second lid for long term use as a jewlry box. 1 - 12x12 sheet.
