This little guy can bend in shape and can be placed in many different angles.
Step 1) For this project we need to start with a circle. This circle is set to a 2" dia. in size, it is then copied and a few more are made of the same size. Next is a small 6mm sized circle for each eye, these eyes will be later set to be engraved. Now the caterpillar has the eyes. Now a small 5mm circle is created from the insert feature and is placed in the middle to the left side of the face. Each circle made will get this same hole one on side or both.
Step 2) Now the ears are made by creating small narrow rectangles, these are placed above the face, small circles are too created and placed just above those. Now all of these get united with the combine feature.
Step 3) The body is now made by using the first circle created and the array feature, there are endless amounts of body parts the caterpillar can have but this one is going to be made with 5. Once the body parts are made each of them will have the 5mm hole placed on either side of the circle around the middle area. the face and the tail only gets one hole the rest get 2.
Step 4) Now the little caterpillar needs a smile. This is done by creating an oval with the insert button, this oval is duplicated and placed on top of each other slight off set. the combine feature is used and the subtract is selected to remove part of the top oval which leaves the smile shape. This is then moved to the face and with the eyes are set to engrave.
Step 5) Now that all the parts are cut out of the material the chicago screws are installed into each of the 5mm holes. these can be tightened to hold each piece together. They allow the body to articulate so the shape of the caterpillar can change.
