The second step involves securing the L-shaped positioning piece onto the base plate of the xTool F1. Begin by placing the L-shaped positioning piece on the base plate, ensuring that its screws align with the two threaded holes on the base plate. Next, tighten the screws by rotating them clockwise until firmly secured. It's worth noting that the positioning piece should be situated closer to the middle rather than the very top right of the base plate. This adjustment optimizes the engraving process, making it easier for the laser to precisely engrave the dog tags with accuracy and efficiency.

Next, place the bone dog tag on top of an old aluminum business card. This step is crucial to prevent accidental engraving of the base plate. Once positioned, adjust the focus of the laser to ensure optimal engraving quality. Align the blue and red dots emitted by the laser so that they converge at the center of the bone dog tag. After achieving proper focus, carefully move the aluminum business card and dog tag assembly to the very top left corner of the L-shaped positioning piece. This precise positioning ensures that the engraving process begins exactly where desired, guaranteeing accurate and visually pleasing results.

In this step, you'll customize your bone dog tag design by adding either a photo or text into the bone dog tag SVG file. It's crucial to maintain the positioning of the bone dog tag SVG throughout this process to avoid misalignment. Ensure that the bone dog tag SVG is located at coordinates X26.52, Y26.82 to line up perfectly with the L-shaped positioning piece.

If you're adding a photo, follow these steps:

1. Drag and drop a .png file of your desired image (e.g., your dog) into the XTool Creative Space (XCS).
2. Click on the photo, then hold down the Shift button on your keyboard and click on the bone dog tag SVG to select both.
3. Right-click on either the photo or the SVG and choose "Make Clipping Mask."
4. Adjust the size and position of the photo within the bone dog tag SVG by dragging its edges and moving it as needed. Ensure that the photo extends beyond the edges of the SVG to cover the entire dog tag.

If you're adding text or shapes:

1. Ensure that the text or shapes remain within the boundaries of the bone dog tag SVG.
2. Position them exactly as desired within the SVG to achieve your preferred design.

By following these steps meticulously, you'll create a personalized and visually appealing design for your bone dog tag.

Now, it's time to fine-tune the laser settings to achieve the best results for your engraving. The settings may vary depending on whether you're engraving text, vector files, or photos, as well as the color of the dog tag.

For text and vector files:

• Typically, a 2W IR Laser with 100% power, 250 speed, and 300 Lines per CM works well.
• Adjust the speed or Lines per CM as needed based on the color of the dog tag or the complexity of the vector design.
• TIP: If you have more than one text or vector elements, you can click on each one of them by holding down the shift button on your keyboard, then changing the settings all at once for all your elements; instead of adjusting each element manually.

For photos:

• Choose between a 10W Blue Light or 2W IR Laser, depending on the color of the dog tag and the photo.
• For IR Laser:
  • Use 500 dot duration, 100% power, 500 DPI, and Jarvis mode.
  • Maximize the sharpness of the photo for optimal clarity & invert image.
• For Blue Light:
  • Use 150 dot duration, 100% power, and 600 DPI, Grayscale mode.
  • Maximize the sharpness of the photo for optimal clarity & invert image.

Typically, black-colored dog tags yield the best results for photos due to their contrast. However, some may prefer color dog tags for a unique look, especially if they plan to engrave text on one side and a photo on the other.

By adjusting the laser settings accordingly, you'll ensure that your engravings are precise, detailed, and visually striking, regardless of the design or dog tag color.

Ensuring precise alignment is crucial for a successful engraving process. To achieve this, we'll utilize the Framing Outline feature and make use of an additional tool to enhance visibility within the software.

Framing Outline Feature:

• Open the software interface of the xTool F1 and locate the Framing Outline option.
• Position the laser head over the top left corner of the L-shaped positioning piece where the dog tag is placed.
• Activate the Framing Outline feature to generate a visual outline of the engraving area.
• Inspect the outline to confirm that the dog tag is fully pressed against the top left corner of the L-shaped positioning piece.
• Make any necessary adjustments to ensure perfect alignment.

Ignoring Dog Tag SVG Outline:

• Within the software interface, click on the outline of the bone dog tag SVG.
• Select the "Ignore" option to temporarily hide the outline of the SVG.
• This action allows you to focus solely on the internal elements of your design, such as text or shapes, ensuring they align correctly within the boundaries of the dog tag.
• With the SVG outline hidden, you can better visualize and adjust the placement of your design elements to achieve the desired look.
• Tip: In the event that you forget to click "ignore" on the Dog Tag SVG outline, the score settings are configured at only 1% power with a speed of 4000, minimizing any potential impact of overlooking this step.

By combining the Framing Outline feature with the ability to ignore the SVG outline, you can effectively address any potential alignment issues caused by accidental table movement and ensure that your engraving is precisely positioned on the dog tag for a polished and professional result.

Now, it's time to bring your design to life by engraving the bone dog tag. Follow these steps carefully to ensure a smooth and successful engraving process:

Prepare the F1:

• Carefully close the lid of the xTool F1. If the lid doesn't close smoothly, apply more grease to the back end of where the shield slides up and down. This ensures that the dog tag remains securely in place when closing the lid.

Initiate Engraving Process:

• In the XTool Creative Space (XCS) software, click on "Process" to prepare your design for engraving.
• Once ready, click "Start" to commence the engraving process.

Activate the Laser:

• With the lid securely closed, carefully press the side button on the xTool F1 machine to activate the laser. Ensure that you don't move the machine while pressing the button.

Monitor the Engraving:

• The F1 will now begin engraving your design onto the bone dog tag. Monitor the process closely to ensure everything is proceeding as expected.

Flip and Repeat (Optional):

• Once the engraving is complete, carefully flip the dog tag over.
• Repeat all the aforementioned steps to engrave the design on the other side of the dog tag, if desired.
• If you want to do the other side, simply click on either Text Dog Tag or Photo Dog Tag buttons to have another canvas for the other side.
