Information
I was really excited about the update to Creative Space that added the ability to mask a picture to an object. One thing I kept searching for but couldn't find was how to mask words out of a picture, though I figured with this new update it would have to be possible. This "how to" is simply to save those people who haven't yet found out how to do it or maybe didn't even think about this as a possibility, the time of searching.

Instruction
1
Step1: Get ready
Preview

Grab a photo, create a shape that will be used to mask the picture (in this case a circle that will keep the picture within the confines of the coaster), and the letters you want to mask out of the picture.

2
Step2: Weld the letters
Preview

Now select the letters and use the weld feature to make them one object.

3
Step3: Combine the mask shape and letters
Preview

Select both your mask shape and the letters, then select Combine and Subtract at Overlap.

4
Step4: Verify it worked correctly
Preview

When you select Engrave the shape mask should fill but the letters will be white (empty). If so, you are ready to mask the image!

5
Step5: Make Clipping Mask
Preview

Move your shape, now with the letters, over top of your photo. Select both and then right click and then select Make Clipping Mask.

6
Step6: Ready to burn!
Preview

Now that your image is masked, you are ready to burn the image, leaving the letters as bare wood.
