Step1: Create Text

Fonts are from dafont.com & were 100% free for personal and commercial use.

I used Monday Banana to create the “we” and “you” text. I used Birdgo to create “LOVE”, but I removed the “O” and replaced it with a heart shape, then outlined the heart.

Arrange the text how you want, then select all, unite, add the heart back, select all, subtract. Now you should see the heart cut out of the engraving.

You’ll need to add another heart in the center of the engraving, so the heart will be cut out, where a photo can be placed. The heart should be set to CUT, but the text should be set to ENGRAVE.

Step2: Size the Display

50 mm x 76mm is a standard wallet size photo. This is what I want to fit in the heart cut-out. I created a rectangle with these dimensions and adjusted the size of the “we love you” text until the inner heart was a good size to fit the wallet size photo. Once finished sizing, I deleted the rectangle.

Step3: Outline

I added a 14mm outline to the text engraving. This outline should be set to CUT.

Step4: Base & Stand

Create a larger rectangle (or other shape) for the base – mine is 147mm x 46mm. The small rectangles on the bottom of the text will be used to stand the text up in the small rectangle holes in the base. UNITE the two small rectangles with the text outline. SUBTRACT the other two from the base.

The wood I’m using is 6mm thick, so my small rectangles are 6mm wide, but the length is not as important. The most important part is aligning the small rectangles on the base with those attached to the text outline. Make sure they’re perfectly centered so they’ll fit together.

Once I united the small rectangles with the text outline, the dimensions of it were 226mm x 184mm.

Step5: Final Steps

I also added text to the base & used SCORE.

The settings I used to engrave & cut are included (BUT make sure to do a material test on your own materials rather than just using the settings I used).
