Made this for my daughter for Christmas who is a big fan of Star Wars and Ashoka.
Took a basic circle and position stars of varying sizes at top and bottom then used the oultine tool to get my final shape of first layer. Ashoka bust was from an outline of a silhoutte bust and manipulated to get final effect. Used the outside outline to create the layer for the light rings and back. took the outline of the bust cutout and copied to the board and used outline tool to give it another 2mm larger for cutting 2 nd layer of pink acrylic.
I set my black acrylic, 3mm, in the machine and framed the layer then processed. Took about 30 min.
Insert pink acrylic in machine and frame bust outline and cut. Once cut i proceeded to use acrylic 2 part fast setting glue to glue the bust cutout behind the bust area of the 1 layer.
Used 3/8" Luan and cutout 2 light rings. Once cutout I glued the 2 pieces together then glue these to the back of the black acrylic layer. Then proceeded to clean the inside area of the lightring to get rid of any char and soot. Once that dried I coated the inside surface with polyurethane for a smooth finish to adhere the lid strips to.
Insert Birch ply into machine, frame back plate and process.
Once the back was cut I inverted the piece and processed the sentiment
Painted the inside of the back plate white for reflection of the LED lights, fished the light set through the cutout hole in the back plate. Attach to the light strips and screw the back plate into position with wood glue. Tested lighting. Due to the color of the bust being pink it gave a distinct color shift of the bust depending one what color was showing on the stars and moon rings.
