Mid Century Style hanging welcome sign. Multi layered wooden sign to hang in your garden, on the door to your home, on your porch, or wherever you want to add some Whimsy & retro vibes.
Before beginning please read the instructions and look over the file. This design has flexibility, and you may not need/want to process all of the shapes included in the file.
Once you have decided which shapes you’d like to process for your project, begin with the step by step.
My settings are just recommendations. I technically used 3.17 mm (1/8th in) wood. Please be sure to use what settings work best for your materials and your machine. Running a test grid is always a safe bet.
Process your top layer shapes. The purple scored layer is optional. It’s only included to help guide you when aligning your pieces in later steps. Note: the blue cut layer pieces are optional, I processed them for the purpose of this how to, but I’m not including them in my final design. They are painted green in the attached photo. If you want the alternating, multi-dimension rectangular shape design like I used, only process the red cut layer pieces.
Sand your pieces if needed and make sure they are wiped clean.

Process your middle and bottom layer shapes. The purple scored layer is optional. It’s only included to help guide you when aligning your pieces in later steps.

Once your shapes have been processed & are clean. You’re ready to paint/stain.
You can get creative with this step! Use whatever colors and methods of applying color are your favorite.
I painted the letters black, the offset white, the rectangular pieces light teal, the middle layer piece green, and the back layer piece white.
Note: make sure whatever method of color application you choose is suitable for where you are choosing to display your finished project. Example: use outdoor paint for outdoor projects
Tip: if you’d want your paint colors to appear brighter, apply a white spray paint base coat.
Follow the directions on your chosen paint/stain method & allow to dry completely.
Once your pieces are completely dry, you’re ready to begin assembling.
These are just suggestions for assembling, if you’d prefer to work at a faster or slower pace, that’s your call.
Glue & clamp your letter pieces to the offset piece. Once those are dried enough, glue that piece and the top rectangle pieces to the back layer piece.
Note: make sure whatever adhesive you choose is suitable for where you are choosing to display your finished project. Example: use waterproof adhesive for outdoor projects
Follow the instructions on your adhesive of choice. Allow to dry completely.
I included the glue I use in the photo, I like it because it’s easy to wipe or sand off excess & it dries clear. I also like using a silicone brush, like the one included in the photo, to get glue onto smaller pieces and cuts without having a lot of excess glue.

Glue & clamp your combined piece to the offset back layer. Allow to set and dry.

Once your layers are completely set & dry…you are ready to hang it up! Hang in your garden, on the door to your home, on your porch, or wherever you want to add some Whimsy & retro vibes.
The holes in the background layer are big enough for all kinds of different hanging methods. I just linked up some extra jump rings I had around to make a make shift chain, but use whatever you prefer and whatever will work best for where you want to display your finished project.
