This charming mini porch swing planter serves as both a succulent holder and a bird and squirrel feeder, making it a versatile addition to your home or garden. Designed to resemble a classic porch swing, it can hold small potted plants indoors or be used as a feeder outdoors. Made from durable wood, this decorative yet functional piece adds a rustic charm to any space. Hang it from a hook, place it on a shelf, or suspend it from a tree branch to create a cozy spot for plants or wildlife treats.
for this project i used aromatic cedar that measured ¼ inch thick. these were small left over pieces from a project. all cuts were made on scraps so i cut them in no order.
Build the Lower Box: Position and align the front, back, and side panels to form a rectangular frame. Secure the pieces using Titebond III wood glue and reinforce them with the 23-gauge ultra-brad nailer.
Attach the three bottom slats, ensuring even spacing and secure them the same way.
Attach the Back Slats: Once the lower box is assembled, attach the vertical back slats to provide support and aesthetics. Use wood glue first, then fasten with the nailer for added strength.
Install the Front Arm Braces: Position the front arm braces at an angle from the front of the seat to the armrest position. Secure with glue and nails for durability.
Attach the Rear Arm/Slat Supports: Fasten the rear supports, connecting them to the back slats and arm positions. Use the glue-and-nail method for a strong hold.
Secure the Arms: Attach the arms on both sides, connecting them to the front arm braces and rear supports. Ensure they are level and sturdy before securing them with glue and nails.
Install the Eyelets: Drill small pilot holes for the eyelet screws and screw them in securely to prepare for hanging.
Attach the Chain: Cut the chain to your desired hanging length. Hook the chain onto the eyelets and check for balance before finalizing placement.
i hung this one with roughly 16" of chain on each side. the actual chain for the swing itself is around 14"
