I bought a piece of basswood with live edges from Hobby Lobby and engraved my mother's favorite hymn on it.  It turned out better than I anticipated.  The wooden stand was made from a plate design I saw online.  I drew it up in Sketchup and then imported it to xTool Creative Space, scored the outline on the 3/4" board, and took it to my bandsaw to cut it out due to the thickness.
