Information
This year I wanted to have colored christmas cards. Yes, one could use the xTool screen printer. But I wanted to do it a different way. Just wood and watercolor

Step1: Get the graphics ready.

I found a nice bitmap of a reindeer on Pixabay, which I used as a starting point. I removed the background and reduced the colors - no more color gradients but only solid colored areas. Afterwards I loaded it into Adobe Illustrator to produce some vector graphics from it. I simplyfied the vectors slightly so that they will cut well. Then I exported the graphics into a DXF and loaded them into XCS.
But you might choose whatever vector you prefer. Only important things: Just take vectors thank you can cut, nothing to engrave. And keep it simple. The smaller and more detailed the parts, the more difficult will it get later.
And of course you could also draw an image, scan this and generate the vectors within XCS.
Finally load you image into XCS and add some text.
Important: The letters of your text should have a certain width. I chose the font “Gorditas” in 40pt bold, which was easy to handle. You can also use any other font. If your letters are big enough, even a scrpit-font will work.

Step2: Cut the file

Prepare your wood. Paint the bottom side , so that it is easy to recognize. Cut everything. My balsa wood required 14mm/s @ 95 percent with a 20W head. If you use different material do a test cut and adjust the settings.

Step3: Color and glue together

Now carefully separate all parts. Use a sponge and watercolor to color all parts. Begin with the biggest part - the outer frame. I used a yellowish-brownish colormix for the bottom and a blue for the upper part - making it ground and sky. A nice white for snow could be also a nice alternative.

Next step is to glue this to some thick colored paper (240g paper is great for this). Now color all other parts and glue them in the gaps. Especially when you come to the letters it is a great help that you colored the backside before. This helps you to see which side needs to be painted. Just think about the dot of the letter i. In some fonts it has an asymmetric form, so you need to know which side goes up.
