Information
This project involves creating a charming decorative wooden bunny with a floral design, perfect for Easter.

The bunny and the floral design are intricately engraved, and the project includes two versions: one for hanging on a wall or door, and another with a stand. The stand is designed to hold the decoration upright and features a nice floral engraving. The size of the decoration is approximately 20 x 16 cm.

Whether you choose to paint the bunny before or after cutting, or leave it natural, this project is suitable for all skill levels and will add a delightful touch to your Easter celebrations.

Version info (layered 3mm)

  • v1: 6mm base with stand
  • v2: 3mm base for hanging (you can layer this too if you want or use 6mm Wood/Plywood)

Version info (6mm)

  • v1: 6mm base with stand (one cut & engrave, no glue)

Begin by selecting a suitable wood for your Easter decoration. I used a 3mm Birch Plywood for this. Ensure it is smooth and free of any imperfections.

As always, if desired, you can paint the wood either before or after cutting to add color and enhance the design. If you paint it before, allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Tip: if you paint it before, set the engraving to lower power (or higher speed) so that it won't burn the wood, allowing the light wood color to come through. Most time you need to run two-three passes for the engraving for an optimal result. Making a test is recommended.

Next, prepare your laser cutter. Carefully place the wood on the cutting bed, ensuring it is securely positioned.

Now, load the design file into xTool Creative Space and adjust the settings for optimal processing with your machine and according to the wood you use. The kerf offset for the red lines is only for the base of the stand. I recommend setting it to half the usual value since we will glue the parts of the Easter decoration. For example, if -0.1 is your common setting, set it to -0.05.

Refer to the design file for guidance on the different line colors:

  • Blue and Cyan lines: These lines indicate where the laser will cut.
  • Red lines: These lines indicate where the laser will cut with kerf offset. Please set it to the right value for your machine and material/wood you use. See https://support.xtool.com/article/1425.
  • Purple: For engraving.
  • Black: Ignored by the laser.

Make sure the design is scaled correctly to fit your chosen wood piece. Execute the cut with precision, following safety guidelines to avoid any mishaps.

Once the cutting is complete, remove the wood from the laser cutter and inspect the pieces.

If you used 6mm Plywood, assemble “A” with “C” and you're done.

Congratulations, hope you like it! 😊

Otherwise, we need to glue the parts together. But it's easy going, isn't it?

Take parts “A” and “B”. We are going to glue these parts together.

First, take part “A” and glue it onto part “B”. Let it dry completely.

Assemble “A” (A+B glued) with “C”.

If you decide to make the layered hanging version, just copy the shape-cut without the engraving and process both. Glue the two parts exactly together and you're done – or you use a 6mm Wood/Plywood.

Congratulations on your cute Easter decoration! 🎉
I hope you enjoy it 😊
