Review the "Material Settings" and experiment with power, speed, and passes to achieve optimal engraving without burning on the back of the wood or a scrap peice. Remember that ideal settings vary by xTool model and wood type, so start conservatively.
With your design ready, it's time to engrave it onto your chosen wood. Secure the wood in your laser cutter, ensuring it's flat and won't shift during the process. I personally use magnets to prevent shift. Double-check that the laser head is accurately focused, as this significantly impacts the engraving's quality. Start the engraving process within xTool Creative Space, and pay attention to the depth and darkness of the engraving, if you aren't happy with the results you can always process it again without moving the wood for darker details. Engraving time will vary significantly between machines/wood types.
After engraving, post-processing will greatly enhance the final product. Carefully remove the wood from the laser cutter and gently wipe away any ash and soot residue from the engraved surface with a rag or paper towel. To protect the wood and improve the engraving's contrast, optionally apply a thin and even coat of clear stain. This also helps prevent yellowing. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application and drying time for best results.
