The project consists in cutting plywood in the shape of a Christmas tree, engraving it with snowflakes on the front and back, and engraving the guest's name on the front to indicate his or her place. An oval base with engravings will be cut out to hold the piece vertically on the table next to the plate. Same procedure, but replace the tree with a Santa Claus.

To give the wood a snow-white appearance, you can coat it with white wax and shine it with a wool cloth. Be sure to do this before engraving and not afterwards, otherwise the wax will clog up the relief of the engravings and they will no longer be visible, as the black burns will have turned white.

I converted a pixel image of a Christmas tree into a vector image and used the "outline" function to generate the path of Santa Claus 's laser cutout, which is a pixel image. I also used the "combine" function to merge the tongue of the Christmas tree or Santa Claus into the oval foot.

To ensure that the engraving of the guest's name fits correctly on the Santa Claus hood, without protruding, it is possible to use the "Curve" function when positioning the text item on the drawing on the screen. This allows you to adapt the shape of the text to the shape of the drawing..

Le projet consiste à découper du contre-plaqué en forme de sapin de Noël, de lui graver dessus des flocons de neige resto / verso et aussi de graver le nom de l'invité en face avant pour lui indiquer sa place. Un pied oval avec des gravvures sera découpé pour maintenir verticalement la réalisation sur la table à coté de l'assiette . Même procédure mais en remplacant le sapin par un Père Noel.

Pour donner un aspect blanc comme la neige, vous pouvez enduire le bois avec de la cire blanche et la lustrer avec un chiffon de laine pour faire briller. Bien le faire avant gravure et pas après, sinon la cire viendra colmater le relief des gravures et celles ci ne seront plus visibles, car les brûlures noires seront devenues blanches.

J'ai converti une image pixels d'un arbre de noël en une image vectorielle et utilisé la fonction de “contour” pour générer le parcours du découpage laser du Père Noël qui est une image pixels. J'ai aussi utilisé la fonction “combine” pour fusionner la languette du sapin de Noël ou du Père Noël, devant s'emboîter dans le pied oval. 

Pour que la gravure du nom de l'invité s'inscrive correctement sur la hotte du Père Noël, sans dépasser, il est possible d'utiliser la fonction de "Curve" quand on positionne l'item du texte le dessin à  l'écran. Comme cela on peut adapter la forme du texte à la forme du dessin.

Le découpage et le gravage (flocons, texte) de la face avant se font en une phase. On peu découper plusieurs pièces en même temps. On peut modifier le nom sur la pièce et aussi le texte sur le pied ovale.

To engrave the rear face of the wooden part, first switch on the Xtool machine, wait 30 seconds, turn over the piece of wood already cut & engraved in the first phase, then close the cover of the Xtool machine, which takes a photo of the work surface and the turned-over piece of wood. Enter thickness parameter 3 or 3,5mm, because thickness has an influence on the image scale.The aim is to position the "orange" locating mask on the contour of the workpiece. The design mask must be superimposed on the photo taken by the Xtool machine camera. The "orange" mask is set to fast speed and very low laser power to avoid marking the wood.

Pour graver la face arrière de la pièce en bois, il faut déjà allumer la machine Xtool, attendre 30 seconde, retourner la pièce de bois déjà découpée et gravée lors de la première phase puis refermer le couvercle de la machine Xtool ayant pour effet de prendre une photo du plan de travail et de la pièce de bois ainsi retournée. Entrez le paramètre d'épaisseur 3 ou 3,5mm, car l'épaisseur a une influence sur l'échelle de l'image. Le but est de positionner le masque "orange" servant au locating sur le contour de la pièce de bois. Il faut superposer le mask de design avec la photo prise par la caméra de la machine Xtool. Le Masque "orange"  est paramétré en vitesse rapide et puissance laser très faible pour ne pas marquer le bois.

Use a metal file to adjust the tongue which is to fit into the oval base. For Santa Claus, you'll need to adjust the length of the tongue according to the thickness of the base.

Utilisez une lime pour le métal pour ajuster la languette qui doit venir s'emboiter dans le pied oval. Pour le père Noël,  il faudra ajuster la longueur de la languette en fonction de l'épaisseur du pied.

Mettre un peu de colle blanche à bois sur la languette , emboitez la pièce dans son pied oval et laissez sécher en s'assurant que le sapin ou le Père Noël sont bien positonnés à la verticale.
