Spin to Reveal !!! Rotating Gear Sign Lets You Mechanically Switch Open/Closed Status
Making this project is very interesting, but it is accompanied by certain difficulties.
I tried my best to design it easier to adjust and make,It's really interesting, I hope everyone can try to make it
Please select the appropriate parameters for laser cutting according to your machine. I used 3mm basswood and black walnut boards. You can see the wood I used in the xcs. I marked it in red. But please ignore the red layers when cutting. They are just for identification.
First assemble the gears frame. All parts will be installed on the frame. Please make sure it is installed tightly and firmly. You can use glue to reinforce it.The trapezoidal frame is the front
Glue two identical gears together. This will increase the thickness of the gears and make them more stable. (Please pay attention the square hole in the middle of the gears. Align them.)
Take out the parts and the T-shaped pins and square hole gaskets in the picture, and install them from front to back, just like the example。add a square hole gaskets behind each gear（The next two steps should also have a gaskets behind each gear）.You can use glue to fix the square hole gaskets and the pins, but be careful not to glue the round holes, the round holes need to rotate smoothly (when you finish the installation, the large gear and the small gear should rotate in the same direction, they are integrated,firm and rotate smoothly)
Install the middle gear as shown,It's not difficult.
This step is very important,Please note the gears in this step. the small gear should be fixed on the pin, while the large gear will be free to turn, and the small and large gears will rotate in opposite directions
The installation of this step will be different from the gears on the left. Please install the small gear first and then the large gear, and make sure the two square holes of the large gear are on the horizontal line. Before fixing all the gears, run them idle to ensure that all the gears are properly matched.Then you can use glue to carefully fix the square hole gaskets.
Install the letter parts.
- First, the letter P, use two pins to fix it to the handle, and leave a certain gap for adjustment.
- Then is the letters O, C and L. Glue them in their corresponding positions, making sure that C and L are behind P.
- E and N require some skill, gluing them to the weights, adjusting the positions of the weights, and adding the spins to them to make sure they can rotate smoothly.Next cut the length of the spins and insert them into the square holes of the large gears.
Some tips
This project requires a lot of patience and carefulness. I bet you'll make a mistake but don't be afraid of making mistakes. Go slowly and carefully try again
- Adjust your work carefully. It only needs some fine-tuning to rotate smoothly. It is very fragile, so please complete it carefully.
- Before you glue it, try running it to make sure there are no issues.
- If you glue it wrong, use pliers to cut off the wrong spins and try replacing it with a good one.
