This cute little gnome plant stake is the perfect way to add some Whimsy to your plants, flower beds, gardens, or landscaping.
You will be using two different types of wood for this project. The settings I have listed are what I have found works best for myself.
Begin by processing your stake piece on 6 mm wood, or your thicker wood of choice. The purple scored layer is optional, it’s only there to guide you for assembly.
Note: the wood I used was 1/8th in & 5/8th in, please use what settings work best for you and your machine. It is never a bad idea to do a material test grid.
Now process your gnome pieces on 3 mm wood, or your thinner wood of choice. The blue scored layer is optional, it’s only there to guide you for assembly.
Optional: if you want to have the design on both sides, duplicate all the gnome pieces and flip them horizontally.

Once your shapes have been processed & are clean. You’re ready to paint/stain.
You can get creative with this step! Use whatever colors and methods of applying color are your favorite.
I used a wood stain on the stake piece. I chose to paint the gnome layer piece purple, the beard piece white, the nose beige & the hat ball piece green.
Follow the directions on your chosen paint/stain method & allow to dry completely.
Important note: if you plan on using these outdoors, then please make sure your stain/paint are suitable for outdoor use.
Once your pieces are completely dry, you’re ready to begin assembling.
These are just suggestions for assembling, if you’d prefer to work at a faster or slower pace, that’s your call.
You can choose to mirror the 3mm gnome pieces and have the design on both sides, if you’d like. For my design, I only did one side.
Glue & clamp your nose piece to the beard piece & your hat ball piece to your gnome piece. Once those are dried enough, glue your beard piece to your gnome piece.
Follow the instructions on your adhesive of choice. Allow to dry completely.
I included a photo of the glue I use, I like it because it’s easy to wipe or sand off excess & it dries clear. I also like using a silicone brush to get glue onto smaller pieces and cuts without having a lot of excess glue.

Once your gnome piece is set & dry, glue & clamp your 3mm completed gnome piece to your 6mm stake piece.

Once your stake is completely set & dry…you’re all done!
