I designed this articulated miniature donkey toy because everyone needs a donkey in their life. Donkeys are intelligent, caring and have a definite sense of humor. It is hard to be around a donkey and be in a bad mood. Unfortunately not everyone has the space and understanding neighbors to have a real live donkey. So, maybe playing with one of these guys will help.
Download and cut cutting files. I used Cherrywood plywood for the brown donkey and basswood for the gray one. On the cutting plan you will se an orange shape off to the side. This is for engraving a darker muzzle if wanted. The cutting plan has one head with a muzzle and one without. If you want an engraved muzzle, flip the orange shape an pull it over to the second head. If you do not want it, just remove it from the head that has it.
There are two spacer/support pieces on canvas 2. The one to the left is for the head, and the right for the body. I cut these out of scrap 6mm basswood plywood. 3mm plywood would as well just cut two of each piece and glue them together.
Finish the engraved side of the pieces using your favorite finish.
Glue the two tail pieces together and the two neck pieces together.
Glue the head support/ spacer and the body support/spacer as shown in the photo.
First, put a machine screw through one ear, then start screwing through the first section of head. Insert the narrow end of the neck into the head, and screw through. Screw on other ear. Secure with two nuts. The pieces will screw onto the 6/32 machine screws with a small bit of turning. The dual nuts allow you to tighten the machine screws enough to allow the posing of the donkey without it collapsing on itself.
Second screw together leg, body, neck,,body, other leg.
Third screw together back leg, body. tail, other body, other back leg
