Information
Miniature wooden bench with intricate lattice design and coin for scale. This bench is a scaled down park bench. It was designed in XCS using the shapes and vector tools and was cut from 1/16 baltic birch plywood.

The work for this project has been done for you! Using the dimensions of a commercially available park style bench, this design is quick to cut and easy to assemble. For this project, all you need is a sheet of 1.5mm or 1/16in baltic plywood, the paint or stain of your choice, and a tiny dab of glue!

Using XCS and the vector drawing tools, I created the lattice backer for the bench. Using rotated rectangles and the grid layout tool, it is a quick and easy pattern to replicate. Once I had the spacing down, a quick copy/paste, followed by flipping the design gave me enough shapes that I could use the combine tool to create the lattice.

To create the arms, I created a small rectangle set to the height and width dimensions I wanted to use. Then, using the vector tool, I create the shape of the arm piece. The vector tool made it easy to adjust the curves and to adjust the spacing once I was ready to work on the fit of the pieces.

Connect your laser, measure your material, and place the design elements! The settings should already be there! If you find that the thin margins are burning up, you can try increasing speed, lowering the power, or both! Ignore the process of Baseplate - this file was processed on slates and honeycomb. ;-)

Step3: Finish as you like and on to assembly!

I like to use acrylic paint markers and stain pens for small projects like these, but really you can finish however you like, just be careful! those tiny pieces are delicate! Once you have everything finished, you can assemble your bench.

I started by gluing the lattice into both of the bench arms. This added stability for placing the final slats. A small dab of glue is really all this project takes. I opted to simply dip the ends of the lattice and the slats into my CA glue.

Finish with a quick spray of poly and voila!
