These earrings take me back to when I was in elementary school passing out Valentine's cards and candies. Very cute & classic vintage look to these adorable earrings. Simple design file that you can alter to your liking!
Upload the file into XCS and adjust to your liking. For example you can change the size or the words, just remember to keep it short as there's not much room on the size of the heart. You can use things like “UR CUTE” and “LUV YA”. I think that the words in capitalization keeps the classic look like a Sweetheart candies.
I have included multiple different options. Please read through the instructions prior to processing so you understand what materials will be needed and what size wood to use. I have provided alternative options compared to the way I made it as a courtesy; however these directions throughout Will be for how I made them with the screw eye hooks.
Wood and template options:
1) This is how I made mine. The first two do not have any additional holes in the heart if you do not have or do not want to use the screw eye hooks. This is the version I preferred and I use the 6 mm wood so the screw I hook could go through without going through the wood. It is possible to use the 3 mm would for this as well, you will just need a steady hand.
2) The second option has a hole right in the center; you would use a jump ring and then attach the earring to that. For this I would choose the 3 mm wood or a larger jump ring. The standard size jump bring will be too small and make the earring hang awkwardly.
3) The third option has a hole added on the left side so the earrings would hang at an angle. This allows for more room for the font and also allows you to connect the hearing hook directly to it without needing a jump ring. Here I would use 3 mm wood especially if you do not have a jump ring and only have the earring hardware.
Font Options:
I chose Lato in BOLD because it reminded me the most of the classic candies and made it easier to paint.
Score: I chose to score the font so I was able to fill in the letters with a paint pen. You will need to have a steady hand for this.
Engrave: if you choose to engrave the letters there will be a different process. You'll need to paint the hearts first and let them dry. You will then mask the hearts with painters tape/frog tape, etc and then run the engraving of the letters. After you have engraved you will then paint the letters red.
Once you have the design to your liking and go ahead and cut out and score.
I chose to paint my hearts after cutting them so I would be able to have multiple different colors and have the sides painted as well. You can use whatever thickness of word you choose, but keep in mind the information provided above. I choose a deep scoring line so when I use the paint pens it is not bleed over and then deeper line helps keep the paint from bleeding over.
I like to spray with a lacquer or varnish at the end to protect them. Let the first coat dry then I lightly sand with some steel wool and paint again with my finishing product. This makes them sealed, looks professional, and feels soft and smooth to the touch. I feel like this is what makes the difference between looking like an amateur product and looking like a professional product
