Happy Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving ! I saw this on Etsy, and decided to try my hand at making my own version. First, i needed the Friends turkey with sunglasses. I googled an image and saved it and imported it to Inkscape.

Step2

I then took this image and did a trace bitmap on it to create an editable SVG.

3
Step3

I removed the background and did 2 traces. I then ungrouped the two images and deleted the bad one, and the original one that i traced.. keeping the good traced vector. As you can see, the one on the right is missing sections. I kept the left and took the fill out of the hat and set to stroke only.

Step4

Now the fun part... playing with nodes! I chose edit paths by nodes and copied and pasted the turkey body. I am wanting to target specific body parts (such as the wing.. one at a time) to wrap my words around. On the copied turkey, i removed everything but the wing that i was working on and then typed my quote. I then went to Text - text to path. It will then wrap it around the specified area. I then deleted the wing that i was working on and took that wrap text and moved it to the wing on the main turkey body. I repeated this for every part that i put text on.

Step5

Next, i measured the front of the airplane shots to see how big that i wanted the front of the hole. I then placed them where i wanted them to go. I also created some slots to allow 4 support pieces. I made those about 4 inches long. You can see where i placed them on the turkey.

I then copied the sunglasses and set aside as i will do a cut out to paste on top of the outline. I saved this as cut 1 for front and sunglasses.

I then deleted everything inside the turkey to make the back side except the cut outs for the shot circles and the slots for the support wood. I then measured the back of the shot bottles to determine the appropiate size to cut. I then made a circle for that size and centered it over the smaller circle to make sure they line up. I then deleted the small circle. i repeated these for all the holes. next, i made my support pieces... just a long rectangle about 4 inches long. i saved that as piece number 2.

Step6

Next, i imported the first piece into xcs. i set the words, hat, and sunglasses on turkey to engrave at 50 power 50 speed. Set the outline of turkey and holes and slots to cut at 100 power 3mms. Set sunglasses to cut at same power and speed.

Then, i went to cut the backside and the support pieces. These are also cut at 100 Power and 3mm/s.

I finished up by using wood glue to spread across the hat and sprinkled glitter on to that. I painted the sunglasses with acrylic paint and glued on.

Let me know if i missed anything!
