Rolling pins were the first item I worked with on my RA2 Rotary tool. They are a very popular item I create and gift or sell. I wanted to create a rolling pin with Valentines Conversation hearts. I used my account with CreativeFabrica.com to find the perfect file to work with. I have added the link but have not uploaded the file as you must have a subscription to use the files privately or commercially. You could find similar files to create this project. XTool had made it so much easier with the new features in XCS. (Video Below). I no longer have to worry about large gaps or overlaps. My "waste" is considerably down as a result. Thanks!!
I uploaded the file purchased from https://CreativeFabrica.com Then when I imported it to XCS, I removed the background using the edit function and then made the file Black and White. This was perfect for what I wanted.
For this project I assembled the RA2 Rotary with rollers. I placed the red cross over the highest point of the rolling pin and took a measurement.
With help from the new tool in XCS, I entered the diameter of our object. It took several attempts to frame, review the tool, resize and refine yet, when I was ready to send it for processing I was confident I would not have any overlap or large gaps.
This new preview feature is awesome~Thanks XTool.
This file took over an hour to process. I had to change the filter about 5 minutes from the end of processing. I have found with rolling pins you may get more sparks and smoke than what you see usually. Do not leave your machine unattended while this file is processing.
Once I finished engraving this I cleaned the soot and sap from the rolling pin with an alcohol and water solution. Then I let it dry and I treated the wood with cutting board oil and beeswax.
