This frame is light weight & can be customized in many ways. You can scale the size, add your own engraving design, add a base & have it be a free standing frame, or put a magnet on the back to frame photos on your fridge.
Process your wood pieces. For the design pictured, you’ll run the red front frame piece that has the engraved design in black, the red rectangle back piece that has the optional purple scoring, and the two red rectangular pieces that will be your middle pieces.
If you want to delete the purple scored lines from the back piece, they aren’t completely necessary. They are to help you align your pieces when constructing the frame.
The second canvas has some engraved valentines designs on them. If you’d like to select those, then for every red front piece you cut, you’ll need the same number of red back pieces with the optional purple scoring. You’ll also need the same number of the smaller set of red rectangular pieces.
If you’d like to stain, paint, or use a method to add color to your wood…now is the time. I only stained the top layer and back layer. If you’d like to stain the two rectangular pieces, you may. Note that only the edges will be visible in the finished product.
Once your front frame layer is dry and stained/painted to your preference, you’re going to glue & clamp the two rectangular middle pieces to the back of the front frame piece. It’s important that you align the thinner middle piece to the top, and the wider middle piece to the bottom of your front frame layer.
For the designs on the second canvas, the middle layers will align to the top right and bottom right of the front frame layer.
Use a wood adhesive of your choosing, I have included a photo of what I use. I also find it easier to apply it with a silicon brush like the one in the photo. Following the guidelines & instructions on your adhesive of choice. Clamp into place.
Once your top frame layer & middle pieces have been combined and are dry, you’re going to glue & clamp that piece to your back layer piece. If you deleted the purple scoring, then just line it up. If you kept the purple scoring, use those lines to guide you in aligning the pieces.
Once again, use a wood adhesive of your choosing. Following the guidelines & instructions on your adhesive of choice. Clamp into place.
Once the adhesive has finished drying, you should be able to easily slide in a wallet sized photo, or a business card through either side.
You can now add a magnet to the back. You can use one stronger magnet, or get an adhesive magnet sheet and cut a few thin strips on the back to make it evenly distributed and strong. The finished product is super light weight, so it doesn’t need to be completely covered in a magnet backing.
