Information

This is a laser cut Iquana Christmas Bauble using 3mm basswood. The design was created using Canva and Lightburn software to achieve the "welding" of the iguana to the outer circle for the first cut. The text was added as an engraving on the back "full circle" cut. I applied a golden oak wood stain to the to cut out of the iguana and left the back natural basswood plywood.

Step1: Engrave and Cut

I downloaded a graphic image of an iguana using Canva as a SVG file and uploaded that file into Lightburn. In Lightburn I created a circle for the bauble, I like to make baubles about 90 to 100mm. I set a 10mm inner offset for the circle. I grouped the circle and offset, then welded the iguana svg to the circle. I created another circle of the same width and added the text for burning. I exported the file as an SVG and opened it with Xtool Creative Space. I set the parameters for engraving and cutting basswood to the preset 3mm. I only modified the engraving parameters for a slower speed and higher power.

I finished the project with a Golden Oak wood stain on the iguana cut-out and the back of the bauble backer. This file cuts two layers. The first is the iguana cut-out, and the second is the “backer” layer for the bauble. I sprayed the bauble once dry with a clear coat spray paint.
