Information
I made a small coin for a friend who owns a Maine Coon cat named Gumpy. The coin is a 14 ga brass coin in 1 inch size, just a little larger than a US quarter. The front shows a side view of the cat, which I generated in Bing Image Creator. The back side says “Gumpy the Magnificent,” generated in a vector app. I also created a coin jig from an aluminum block, so I could reproducibly place the coins if I want to make more of them. The solid vector circle is for making the jig. You could also use it to do a cleaning pass on the coin after engraving.

Instruction

Step1: Create the jig (optional)

Place a 4” x 4” x ¼” aluminum block in the center of the base, held in place by the positioning guide.  Engrave the solid circle, which is the size of the coin.  If one pass doesn’t make the indentation deep enough to hold the coin, do a second pass.

Step2: Emboss front side

Be sure you have selected Embossment, then place the coin in the jig.  Use Tracing to fine tune the placement, then emboss the coin.  With these settings, the operation took about 90 minutes.

Step3: Embossing back side (optional)

Flip the coin over, trying to center vertically, and use Tracing to fine tune the placement.  You probably won’t want to use the phrase I used so just create your text in a vector program, white text on a black 1” circle.  Center the design on the coin.  Using these settings, it took about 70 minutes to emboss.
