I made this sign for Valentine's Day for my youngest son and his girlfriend. The theme is from a song by the B-52's released in the late 80's. I also designed this project so I could share it in DesignFind and get points to buy things!!!
I used a pre-cut 16" MDF round (6mm) for the base and 2 pieces of 3mm MDF (19" X 12") for the words and pieces. The total cut time took a little over 17 minutes.
There are several layers on this project that you may not notice in the picture so be mindful of that before making the cuts. They can be easily viewed on the extra canvases provided.
I hope to see remixes of this project so please share!!!
I used a gel stain on the round MDF base board because I wanted it to look like natural wood. It only took one coat with a sponge applicator, and I loved the results!
I used a variety of acrylic paint colors for the words and pieces, and each piece took two to three coats. I used a roller for some pieces and a sponge for others.
Note: I always prep MDF with a sprayed-on coat of Rustoleum clear before painting colors because MDF soaks up paint. MDF is my preferred medium because it cuts like butter and I never have to adjust my settings.
I added stripes to the “L” for LOVE using thin blue painter's tape and glued a few rhinestones on the “V”.
I finished off the project by adding a decorative bow.
